Separate and Keep Wet
The moment you discover dye transfer, remove ALL affected items from the washer. Separate the culprit item (the one that bled dye) from the recipients. Keep all items damp — do not let them dry, as drying can set the transferred dye. If you cannot treat immediately, place items in a plastic bag or bucket of cold water.

Rinse Under Cold Running Water
For light transfer on a single item, hold the stained fabric under cold running water, allowing the water to flow through the fabric from the back of the stain. This physically flushes away dye molecules that have not yet bonded to the fibers. Continue until the rinse water runs clear.

This powerful reducing agent donates electrons to the dye's chromophore groups, chemically reducing them to colorless leuco forms. This is the reverse of the oxidation approach — reduction strips color by removing the conjugated double-bond systems that absorb visible light. Launder as Normal
After soaking/treatment, wash the items using your regular detergent at the warmest temperature safe for all items in the load. Adding a color catcher sheet to this wash load is recommended to absorb any residual loose dye.
